I've had a love affair with the work of John Maeda for around 7 years. He's a graphic designer, visual artist, and computer scientist at the MIT Media Laboratory. His books are also inspirational and fascinating. Take a look.

Tim Cameron's found an interesting niche by combining work and pleasure. He designs beautiful conceptual motorcycles. I would not be surprised if one of his designs is picked up on / inspires a real world design soon.
