South Africa’s New Media Events, Conferences and Expos

Here's a list of regular, worthwhile-looking New Media events. By that, I mean to exclude print media and advertising unless the primary focus is online. I'll add as I notice others.
Web, software, digital design, development and internet entrepreneurship events are welcome. I'll also note those I have attended and add some micro-reviews when I have time. Let me know of any additions you feel should be here.
TEDx Johannesburg
http://www.tedxjohannesburg.co.za
Location: Johannesburg
"TEDx is a new program that enables local communities such as schools, businesses, libraries, neighborhoods or just groups of friends to organize, design and host their own independent, TED-like events."
Net Prophet Conference
www.netprophet.org.za
Location: Cape Town
"...Making Business Sense of the Internet. Net Prophet is a new initiative created to inspire creativity and the flow of ideas among entrepreneurs and stake-holders who operate in the internet-tech space in Africa & South Africa. Another point that makes this conference unique is that it is funded by non-profit entity The RAMP Foundation, in the interests of stimulating the local Internet economy, and is 100% FREE to attend."
alt.conference
http://altconference.ning.com
Locations: Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town
"...Alt.conference is a social media conference for believers.
That means it is a conference for social media insiders/professionals/users specifically. It is not an intro level conference but is rather intended as an opportunity to share knowledge, insights, ideas and solutions developed/experienced by smart people in the industry with other smart people."
Habari Media Digital Symposium
symposium.habarimedia.co.za
Location: Cape Town
"...the aim of sharing the latest online developments, international trends and, most importantly of all, to bring further education to the market. The event is attended by a mixture of business owners, marketers and agencies."
27 Dinner
www.27dinner.com
Location: Johannesburg, Durban (attended), Cape Town, Port Elizabeth
"...On the 27th day of every month of the year since January 2007, hundreds of interesting people from diverse walks of life have collected under one roof over good food and wine to celebrate a common passion for technology, media and business."
Microreview: I attended the March 09' 27 Dinner, and although I got there late (lost in Durban..) and had to leave early (mad dash to airport..), I could see that there's a great atmosphere due to the well-balanced mix of bloggers, entrepreneurs and developers. It's certainly worth going along next time for a chilled 'industry' night out.
Microsoft Devdays
www.microsoft.com/southafrica/devdays/
Location: Durban (Attended), Johannesburg, Cape Town
"...the premium developer event, exclusively delivered for developers in South Africa. The events are all about developers learning, sharing and interacting with each other in an informal and relaxed atmosphere."
Microreview: A very good day with a mixed bag of South African speakers. Microsoft looked after us well throughout the day with plenty of refreshments and food. Great venue too, in a comfy cinema.
Adobe User Group Meetings
www.aug.co.za (see links below for individual AUG sites)
Location: Durban, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Port Elizabeth
"...Monthly events for all Adobe users and enthusiasts. Great for discussing and getting exposure to new technologies and techniques."
Interacive Marketing Summit
Link to event on Marketing Mix
Location: Johannesburg
"...Messaging, website, search engine optimisation and mobile. The two day summit will focus on how to achieve outstanding results from direct marketing and CRM campaigns by adopting very best practices and innovative content objectives, through gaining an expert appreciation of the best ways to optimise digital media."
Note: This seems to be verging on the sort of event I wanted to omit, but it does include some interesting-looking Online and Social talks. It seemed odd that I couldn't find a dedicated site for this interactive media event.
WordCamp South Africa
www.wordcamp.co.za
Location: Cape Town
"... WordCamp is an informal gathering of WordPress enthusiasts, bloggers, podcasters, developers and designers. The event will bring all these people together, under one roof, for a full day."
Note: Sounds great, but I'm not sure if it's running for 2009 yet.
Microsoft TechEd Africa
http://www.teched.co.za
Location: Durban
"... You’ll go back to your office with knowledge and expertise that only three days at Tech·Ed can offer. You can learn about today’s cutting edge trends, helping you make life easier for you (and everyone else) at work. But the most important benefit just might be the networking: you can build personal connections with Microsoft experts and peers that will last far beyond Tech·Ed."
Note: August 2nd - 5th this year.
Mobile Web Africa
http://www.mobilewebafrica.com
Location: Johannesburg
"... Coverage of one of the most important technological advances of the 21st century and the exceptionally interactive roundtable format promises to make Mobile Web Africa one of the leading events of 2009 in Africa. "
Note: 13-14 October this year
GeekMeat Chow
http://www.geekmeat.co.za
Location: Johannesburg
A meet for likeminded geeks, conceptualised at the last Barcamp Joburg. The website is also rather good, listing upcoming geek events. First Meat was November 2009, planned monthly I think.
Africamp Barcamps
http://africamp.com
Location: Various!
The barcamp has officially been around since August 2005 when a group of friends decided to hold a participant-powered conference in Palo Alto, California. The idea was to have an ‘unconference’ that anyone could host and where everyone could present on topics they were passionate about. Since then, barcamps have been held in over 400+ locations around the world including cities and communities in Africa. They have steadily grown discussions, innovations and ideas that might not have come to light before. While originally a very technical event in focus, they have evolved to cover a vast scope of topics from programming code to the enjoyment of cupcakes.
