Dynamics Workshop: Cinema 4D

Client: Multinational media training institute
Location: London, UK
Date first run: February 2006
Involvement: Entire process, solo project
Applications: Cinema 4D
Target: Potential 3d and multimedia students
Here's most of the media from one of my 'complete beginners' workshops. They were created a while ago but work fine in newer versions of Cinema 4D (principles and tools are the same) and I thought they might be useful to someone.
In what way are dynamics used in 3D computer animation?
Animation can be a process where we set the positions, sizes and rotations of our objects using 'keyframes'.
To give objects a more natural animation, and have them interact with one another realistically, we can use dynamics.
For example, if we animated a bouncing ball without dynamics we'd look at it's positions and try to place the ball correctly over time.
Using dynamics, we tell the floor that it is hard, the ball it is soft, we apply gravity, and press play! Dynamics are an interesting and rewarding part of computer animation.
Here's the powerpoint from the workshop. It was carried out in a practical training style, hence they are brief. Click on the slides to view the next one.
